Maquis is a solitaire worker-placement game that immerses players in the historic occupation of France during la petite guerre. The game focus is on liberating your homeland from oppressors, rather than simply advertising a product.

In Maquis, players strategically place their resistance agents in various locations around town to achieve their goals. These goals involve actions such as blowing up trains, publishing underground newspapers, and aiding spies. However, players must also navigate the presence of collaborators and soldiers who patrol the area.

An element of risk is introduced as agents who are unable to return to the safe house by the end of each day are arrested and never seen again. This adds tension and high stakes to the gameplay.

To further enhance replayability, Maquis offers players the opportunity to choose from 9 different missions, each with its own unique set of challenges. Additionally, these missions can be played at varying difficulty levels, providing a customizable experience tailored to player preferences and skills.
